The most common question about mint tea is the simplest one: how much, and how long? This makes it foolproof. A clean, cooling, bright cup comes from one teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves and a few minutes in hot water, served hot or over ice. Drink it after dinner or through the afternoon, or brew it double-strength and pour over ice with a wedge of lime. The dried leaves also crush into a bright note for chocolate desserts, fruit salads, and lamb rubs.

Peppermint is the sharper, cooler mint, all crisp menthol, where spearmint runs milder and sweeter. Two things keep it tasting fresh instead of cooked. Leaves scorched in fully boiling water go flat and vegetal, and a steep left too long dulls the snap. A pour a touch below the boil and a five-minute steep keep the cup crisp and cool.

Single ingredient: whole dried peppermint leaves. Caffeine-free, no sugar, no preservatives, and vegan. Packed fresh so the menthol stays bright.

Common Questions

How do I brew it?

Use one teaspoon of leaves per eight ounces of water. Heat fresh filtered water to around 200°F, pour it over the leaves, and steep for five minutes for the best flavor. Use fresh leaves each time you brew. For iced tea, brew it double-strength and pour over ice.

What is the difference between peppermint and spearmint?

Peppermint is bolder and cooler, with a sharp menthol bite. Spearmint is softer, sweeter, and less icy. If you want the crisp, tingling mint of a candy cane, peppermint is the one. If you want the gentle mint of a Moroccan-style tea or a summer salad, that is spearmint.

How do I make it iced?

Brew it double-strength, since ice dilutes it, then pour over a full glass of ice. It takes beautifully to a splash of lemonade or limeade, and a few extra leaves in the pot give a stronger, more refreshing cold cup.

Does it have caffeine?

No. Peppermint is a caffeine-free leaf infusion with no black or green tea in it, so it works as an after-dinner cup or any time you want a cooling drink without the caffeine.
