A golden cup of warm, spiced milk, the color of sunset and smelling of cinnamon and ginger: that is golden milk, a turmeric-milk latte known in Indian homes as haldi doodh. Whisk a spoonful into warm milk for a cozy, caffeine-free evening drink, or stir it into oatmeal, smoothies, and lattes when you want earthy turmeric warmth. This is a latte mix, not a steeping tea.

This blend is not one we found in a book. The recipe came to us from Jagtar Singh, an elderly yogi from Punjab, in northern India, and a longtime friend of our family, who measured it out the way he had made it for years. We grind it the same way now, stone-ground fresh in small batches in Portland: earthy turmeric for color and depth, sweet Ceylon cinnamon, warming ginger, and a pinch of Tellicherry black pepper, the classic culinary partner to turmeric.

Golden milk is a long-loved comfort drink in Ayurvedic kitchens, whisked warm and sweetened to taste. On a cold, rainy night it is the mug you cradle in both hands. Sweeten with honey or maple, and reach for whole or coconut milk when you want the creamiest cup.

Ingredients: turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, Tellicherry black pepper. Caffeine-free. No salt, no sugar, no preservatives. Vegan.

Common Questions

Where does this recipe come from?

Jagtar Singh, an elderly yogi from Punjab, in northern India, and a longtime friend of our family, shared his own golden milk recipe with us, and this blend follows it. We grind it fresh in small batches so it tastes the way he made it.

How do I make golden milk with it?

Whisk about a teaspoon into a mug of warm milk (dairy or plant) until smooth, then sweeten to taste with honey or maple. See the brew guide on the product page for the full method.

What milk works best?

Whole milk, oat, almond, and coconut all work. Coconut milk gives the richest, creamiest cup; oat is a close second for a smooth texture.

Turmeric stained my counter. How do I avoid that?

Turmeric stains fast, so wipe up spills right away and keep a dedicated whisk or spoon for it. A wooden spoon will pick up a yellow tint over time, which is normal.

Why is there black pepper in golden milk?

Black pepper is turmeric's traditional culinary partner. A small pinch adds a gentle warmth and rounds out the earthy turmeric and sweet cinnamon.
