Drop a few tight little pearls into hot water and watch them slowly unwind into whole leaves. Jasmine pearls are young green tea leaves hand-rolled into beads and scented with jasmine flowers, and the unfurling is half the pleasure. The cup is delicate, floral, and gently sweet. Sip it hot and unhurried, or pour it over ice for a fragrant summer glass.

Hand-rolling is slow, careful work, traditionally done in China's Fujian province with spring-picked leaves. Because each pearl is a tight bundle of whole leaves, it opens in layers as it steeps, releasing the jasmine a little at a time. We pack ours fresh in small batches in Portland.

A handful of pearls goes a long way, since each bead is packed with whole leaf. Watching them bloom in a clear glass makes even a quiet afternoon feel like a small ceremony.

Single ingredient: green tea leaves, scented with jasmine. No sugar, no preservatives, naturally vegan. Green tea carries caffeine, lighter than a black tea.

Common Questions

How do I brew it?

Use one teaspoon of pearls per eight ounces of water. Heat fresh water to about 175°F, pour it over the pearls, and steep for three minutes. Use fresh pearls each time you brew.

How many times do jasmine pearls steep?

Our brew card is set for fresh pearls each pot, which gives the fullest jasmine aroma. If you re-steep the same pearls, expect a lighter, quieter second cup as the flavor thins with each round.

Where are jasmine pearls from?

The hand-rolling tradition is rooted in China, especially Fujian province, where spring-picked green tea is rolled into pearls and scented with fresh jasmine. Ours are packed fresh in small batches here in Portland.

Why use a clear glass?

The pearls unwind into full leaves as they steep, and a clear glass or teapot lets you watch it happen. It is a small ritual that makes the tea feel special, and it also shows you when the leaves have fully opened.
