Tart, bright, a little floral: that is yuzu, the Japanese citrus, laid over clean green tea. Yuzu berry sencha is a steamed Japanese green tea (sencha) brightened with natural yuzu essence, and it brews into a fragrant, zesty, jade cup. Drink it hot when you want something lively, or cool it into a crisp iced tea for a warm afternoon.

Sencha is Japan's everyday green, prized for its fresh, grassy sweetness. Yuzu, a fragrant East Asian citrus that sits somewhere between a lemon and a mandarin, gives it a perfumed lift without weighing it down. We pack ours fresh in small batches in Portland.

Like any sencha, it drinks best from a cooler pour and a short steep, which keeps the green sweet and lets the yuzu stay bright on top.

Green tea leaves and natural yuzu essence. No sugar, no preservatives, naturally vegan. Green tea carries caffeine, lighter than a black tea.

Common Questions

How do I brew it?

Use one teaspoon per eight ounces of water. Heat fresh water to about 175°F, pour it over the leaves, and steep for two minutes. Use fresh leaves each time you brew.

Why did mine turn bitter?

Sencha scorches in water that is too hot. A boil pulls harsh notes out of the leaf and buries the citrus. Heat to about 175°F, steep two minutes, and the cup stays sweet with the yuzu sitting bright on top.

What does yuzu taste like?

Yuzu is a fragrant East Asian citrus, tart and floral, with notes of lemon, grapefruit, and mandarin all at once. It is more aromatic than a plain lemon, which is why a little essence brightens the whole cup.

Is it good iced?

Yes. Brew it a little stronger, cool it, and pour over ice for a clean, citrusy green that is refreshing on a hot day. A thin slice of lemon plays up the yuzu.
